The Details

What does it cost to become a licensed broker?

Each course has a fee of $1,500 and includes access to the online course and on-demand learner support from our education committee. Once the courses are completed, each RECA exam costs $235 plus GST and there is a $575 licensing fee. This may seem like a big investment, but don' t worry - the commission from your first few deals could easily cover all of these costs.

Do I have to take classes in person?

No, this is an online, work-at-your-own-pace course to allow candidates the most flexibility. You have six months from your start date of each course, and then three months following the completion of each course to pass the licensing exams at RECA.

How long does it take to become a licensed Mortgage Broker?

It depends on how quickly you complete each course. However, on average, it takes between 12 and 18 months from starting the first course to becoming a fully licensed Mortgage Broker.

Am I doing this on my own?

Not at all! You have the full support of our Education Support Team, which includes practicing brokers, lenders, insurers, and other mortgage professionals. We're here to answer your questions and provide additional support throughout your program.

Does this course require a lot of math and numbers?

Nope! This is a common misconception! Mortgage brokers have tools to take care of the math and numbers - this is primarily a relationship-driven job. You will learn the formulas in the courses, but you’ll have access to a special mortgage calculator to help you.

Do I need to be a legal expert in all of the rules and regulations of the industry?

You'll need to have a solid understanding of the ethical and conduct standards and what you can and cannot do as a mortgage broker - but this is all covered in your courses!

Where can I work as a Mortgage Broker?

Once you complete your licensing exams, you will need to find a Brokerage to work for. When you complete our program, we'll provide you with a Graduate Guide that will help you find the Brokerage that is the best fit for you. While you're taking your courses, you'll also receive exclusive invitations to industry events and professional development sessions throughout the province, where you'll have the opportunity to make connections in the industry and learn about the various Brokerages.

Is this a male-dominated industry?

Not at all. As of the last five years, we've seen an even split between women and men enrolling in our courses and becoming licensed brokers.

"Integrity, professional excellence, accountability and community - these are the words I choose to describe AMBA! Great bunch that provide broker voice and consumer choice. The key to success!"
